    Thank you for the thoughtful explanation. I have found the same issues but have yet to put into words exactly what ypu said and how you said it. I will look for your book and plan to pose some questions and share some of my own observations on your posts. I have been fortunate to have been in construction for more than 50 years and still going strong. Starting with a Formal 5 year Apprenticeship in IBEW after high school and continuing my education by going back to college when I was 32 to round out my education with a Liberal Arts Degree which I assumed would give credibility to my Apprenticeship as most people do not look at a Formal Apprenticeship as credible. I graduated Magna Cum Laude, Phi Theta Kappa. Most think ypu just pay dues until you graduate with a Certificate as a Journeyman Wireman. All of my Instructors held a Doctorate. Those who taught Welding, Pipe Bending, Math, Trigg, Geometry, Pipe Beniding, Rigging, and much more. It's recognized by the Dept of Labor Bureau of Apprenticeships yet still looked down upon bynso many. I could go on but will save that for another time. I will say I love what I do and I have always looked for the biggest and best work wherever I could find it from Nuclear Power Stations, to Mid Rise , High Rise amd Sky Scrapers, New Hospital work and School Work. The more I know the More I Know I Don't Know! Thanks again, Lou Blasco

    Hey, Jason. Great content! I have worked as a commercial construction superintendent in the Houston area for over 25 years. In those 25 years I have seen construction go from a handful of GCs, subcontractors and developers, to an explosion of these professions due to the growth of our area. I feel like the industry here grew too fast and as a result the quality of the work and the trades have went down. One thing is for sure, mid level firms who do the majority of the work in this area have not modernized nor do they follow key principles. It’s truly like the Wild West. I quit working for GCs recently and I’m diving into construction consulting to help smaller contractors and private developers. I have not been exposed to systems such as Lean and Takt before but I am cramming as much of your content as possible to better serve my clients. Thanks for the great content.

    I am starting construction project management with a company where no woman has ever held a position of leadership. I do not have any experience in this field but was approached because they saw where my work ethic could be valuable in project management. How can I be taken seriously and be a leader over a team of 50 men?

    • @jasonwilliamschroeder
      @jasonwilliamschroeder 6 дней назад

      Thanks for reaching out. I’m far more concerned about the lack of experience in this field than your gender. Am I understanding that right? You’ve not worked in construction before and now are tasked with leading a large crew? We have tons of resources for you; not to sound too self aggrandizing, but have you read our books or looked at our website? Any of that material will help prepare you to lead your team. Feel free to reach out to katies@elevateconstructionist.com if you’d like to continue the conversation; she may have some ideas of how to help you feel more confident as a woman in your role. Kabri Lehrman-Schmid at Hensel Phelps is someone to follow on LinkedIn. She’s a project leader and an activist for diversity and mental health-a personal hero of ours.

    What if the company you work for, the director is just a person who doesn't want you to be proactive, all he wants is to do what he wants, and if not, he feels you are a threat or that you will create a fight between him and other managements. TBH it so confusing cause you would be never in the picture and you try your best to do what he wants when its not even clear. they want you to be a person with supernatural powers in reading minds, jeeez

    I worked with a guy once who was a Super for wind farms, out in the regions. His sites were spread out over hundreds of kilometers and very little cell phone reception let alone internet connections. So this guy was almost solely responsible for everything with sporadic backup from the office. His base salary was $300k. That's more than some VPs make.
